Circa 1953. Post World War II Class photo.

Here's another rare class photo that was shared to us by our regular old pictures contributor Mr. Jesus Leong whose family left the island city of Basilan more than 30 years ago; they used to own Basilan Merchandising and Grocery. Mr. Leong lives in Brazil. This picture was taken by the school’s tennis court. Notice the kind of building materials that were used during that period; in these contemporary times this is considered expensive and the choice of style for those who loves to have their house motif that is exquisitely Oriental. Notice also the dapper looking students with their courtly pose. (Joey P. Tugung)

"Front row, third from left: Donato, Benjamin General (our natural leader), Willie Wong, Vicente Saavedra, Ricardo Saquian, Alfredo Verocel, the last two I remember, but do not recall their names.

Second row, third from left, Is that you Rizalina Denoga?, Erlinda Alfaro (face half hidden by Ben General), Susana Rubio, Isabel Leong, Mr.Angel Dayot, our class adviser, behind Ricardo Saquian there is Evelina Denoga, who now lives in Tampa, FL, Lolita Laconico ...

Last row: second from left Datu Mohammad ... fourth from left Reinfrido (Spanish rendition of Renfield?) Arquiza, Roseller Barinaga, Filomena Rubio, Luis Diaz, Rosario ... second to the last is yours truly.

Why are Nilo Barandino and Auring Pena not in this picture??? The tall guy standing to the right is one of the Gregorio bros. and if I remember correctly a real trouble maker but okay. Classes were held in the annex you see in the background, with mother-of-pearl windows and thatch roofing. In these ecologically conscious times nipa roofing is IN, but mother-of-pearl windows are definitely OUT."
